Since music is so important to me, I wanted to share some of my favorite lyrics from some of my favorite songs. I’ve either related to these or they’ve inspired me at one point or another. I find lyrics to be probably what makes a song to me for a lot of the time, they take me from liking a song to loving it. If I identify with a lyric, I find comfort in it, and I’ll listen to it over and over again.

“They say people never change but that’s bullshit, they do”

  • Yes I’m Changing- Tame Impala

“Who cares about a game when it’s all been replaced, every level feels the same, it really goes either way”

  • The Difference- Flume

“Time is like a leaf in the wind, either it’s time well spent or time I’ve wasted”

  • Telescope- Cage the Elephant

“And getting made you want more, and hoping made you hurt more, someone tell me something comforting”

  • Something Comforting- Porter Robinson

“It’s all just so forgettable ’till I’m sitting with your stuff alone”

  • Shampoo Bottles- Peach Pitt

“Breathe a little deeper, should you need to come undone”

  • Breathe Deeper- Tame Impala

“You’re cold and I burn, I guess I’ll never learn”

  • Settle Down- The 1975

“Today love smiled on me, it took away my pain”

  • Soul to Squeeze- Red Hot Chili Peppers

“The thoughts are broken, perhaps they’re better left unsung, I don’t know, don’t really care, let there be songs to fill the air”

  • Ripple- Grateful Dead

“In the end it’s stronger than I know how to be, and I can’t just spend my whole lifetime wondering”

  • The Moment- Tame Impala

“I’ve been one poor correspondent, I’ve been too hard to find, but it doesn’t mean you ain’t been on my mind”

  • Sister Golden Hair- America

  • I Wish I Was- The Avett Brothers

Since being home, I’ve updated my bulletin board in my room. It’s filled with things that describe me, inspire me, and make me happy, so I thought I would share each element of it with you to help you get to know me better.

Here is the board as a whole.

The Louis Vuitton envelope is for my love for fashion- just like pretty much every 20 year old girl. I find that fashion is a way to express myself, and I love adding new pieces of clothing and accessories to my wardrobe.

The Pink Floyd card and Grateful Dead bear are for my love of music. I also have a music festival wristband on there to represent this. Music is probably my favorite thing in the entire world, I would be so lost without it. I love to listen to it and make playlists, go to concerts with my friends, and play it. I think it’s one of the purest, most vulnerable forms of expression. It connects people like nothing else can, and I think it’s connected me to so many people on a deeper level than I ever could have been without it.

I have a lot of photos of my friends and I on here. I obviously love all of my friends, and I consider my closest ones more like family. Being away from them is especially hard right now, as I typically am with them every second of every day. They’re always there for me when I need them, and I share everything with them. I’m a very social person, and I definitely get my energy from being around other people, particularly the ones I can laugh or cry with, like the people on my board. As cliche as it sounds, my friends make me strive to be the best version of myself possible, and the best friend I can be for them.

This part of my board reminds me of my two homes. The card is from a restaurant in my hometown, Louisville, Kentucky. Same for the pin- it’s a derby pin, which is used to get into all of the events leading up to the Kentucky Derby. Derby season is my favorite time of year in Louisville, and I have so many positive memories associated with that pin. And the sticker obviously represents my second home in Texas. I love it more than I ever thought I would initially moving there for school, and I miss it dearly.

Finally, I have a running bib. I used to run cross country and track in high school, and made some of my best friends through this. I loved running competitively, and I still do run today recreationally. It’s a great stress reliever for me. Whenever I find myself stressed or somewhat lost, I always go for a run with my music to clear my head. I consider it still to be a big part of my identity.

Here is another guitar video! This is the verse and chorus of one of my favorite songs- “Stay” by Post Malone. Guitar is one of my favorite creative outlets, even if I’m not great at it. I love playing it, mainly because of how much I love music. It’s, in my opinion, probably the most vulnerable form of expression.

I am 20 years old. Two decades. Two decades of knowledge and experience I’ve gained. I’ll soon be 21 this summer, so I thought I would share 20 things I’ve learned for my 20 years of life. While I don’t always follow these in the moment, I believe in them, and they always turn out to be true in the end.

1. Your mom is always right.

2. It’s important to pursue what makes you happy.

3. Not everyone will treat you the same way you treat them.

4. Appreciate the small things, you’ll never know how much they’ll mean later on.

5. Let the people you care about know how much you care about them.

6. You’re probably not in love, so don’t let a boy control your life.

7. People aren’t as happy as they look on social media, so don’t compare yourself to them.

8. Spend time outisde.

9. For every action, there is an equal, opposite reaction.

10. Call your grandparents.

11. Don’t bite off more than you can chew.

12. Everything happens for a reason. Cliche, but true.

13. The best things happen unexpectedly.

14. If you’re unhappy, don’t wallow. Try and do something to change it.

15. Don’t overthink- trust me, it’s not as bad as it may seem.

16. The world does not revolve around you.

17. Put yourself on the line.

18. Being afraid gets you nowhere.

19. Apply yourself.

20. You’re never truly alone- people care about you more than you think they do.

My parents are divorced, and while normally when I go home I see both of my parents frequently, Coronavirus has made things a little different. I haven’t been able to see my dad at his house, due to the fact that he believes he is high risk and is quarantining himself completely. As a result of this, I haven’t been able to see my angel of a dog, Byron.

In honor of missing this cutie, I decided to write a poem about him.

Black fur and brown eyes

His face melts my heart

He’s an angel sent from heaven

And Corona has torn us apart

I’m missing his happy barks

As I approach those double doors

Maybe if I had him,

Quarantine wouldn’t be such a bore

I’d take him for long walks

But more importantly, drives

His favorite mode of transport

Is my sweet, beat up ride

PLEASE STAY INSIDE

And then I’ll shut up

The sooner this is over

The sooner I’ll see my pup

Today, I made a bucket list of all of the things I hope to do when we’re all finally out of quarantine- and for the rest of my life.

Some of the items are very big picture, while others are pretty minuscule in the grand scheme of things. I’ve definitely always been one to imagine my future and dream about what it may hold, and these are some of the things I hope are included in it!

Today, I made some guacamole and documented my progress. I thought I’d share my recipe with the blog- it’s very simple, but delicious!

Two of the biggest things you will need are: chips and an avocado.

First, cut up your avocado and put it in your bowl.

Next, I like to add some sliced tomatoes. I try to make the pieces as small as possible, but I’m sadly very bad at cutting vegetables.

Next, add as much lime juice as you’d like. I squeezed in about half a lime. Then, I added some salt and pepper to my personal taste.

Then, just mash it together and you have your own personal guacamole! Eat with your favorite tortilla chips and enjoy!

Drawing is one of my favorite forms of creativity, I’ve done it my entire life and I was in the art program in high school. I especially loved, and still love, drawing portraits. I wanted to share one I did of one of my best friends, Maggie.

The drawing is called Gunflower, named after the title of a song. The multicolored, vibrant string around her is used to mirror the positive impact she has on my life, and the piece as a whole is a testament to the value I place on friendship.

Art is something that has kept me busy at home, and I wanted to share a paint-by-numbers I did. I love painting free-hand normally, but the monotony of paint-by-numbers what somewhat relaxing to me. There was also a stress-free element to painting and not worrying about how the final product would come together, knowing most of the hard work was done for me. However, it still fulfilled he creative part of myself, and I felt accomplished once finishing.
