In this post, I will be ranking and the children-geared internet games I’ve been playing over quarantine.
5. Poptropica
Poptropica comes in at number 5 on the rankings. For me, there is way too much critical thinking involved in playing Poptropica. I want mindless fun in a game, not some sort of cryptic storyline and mystery I have to solve. Although I do see the appeal of solving somewhat of a puzzle, I’m far to emotionally and mentally preoccupied to do this. The server is also very slow which is frustrating when playing, and I think the characters look weird.

4. Stardoll
Stardoll is a fashion based game online- you create a character (a doll if you will), own a home (or as they call it, a “suite”), and essentially dress up your doll and buy clothes. While this does fulfill my shopping and fashion needs in this time of quarantine, it does so a little too realistically. IT IS SO HARD TO EARN MONEY ON THIS GAME! You can only earn a little bit each day, and it’s maddening. It would be much more fun if I could earn money faster and buy more clothes and makeup, but sadly this is not possible. There is also a lack of fun minigames, making it even more boring and frustrating.

3. Webkinz
Webkinz comes in at number 3 on the list. I think most of my enjoyment of this game comes from nostalgia. Again, the server is often slow, causing me to dock some points from its rating. However, there is an abundance of activities and games to play on Webkinz, and it is hard to get bored whilst playing. The animals are also very cute, and I have a dope house from my years of playing. I love giving my pets baths and going to the curio shop. Overall a great game.

2. Sims
Sims 4 is only a $5 download currently, making it high on the list. Sims is a classic game from my childhood, and getting to play it has been such a treat during quarantine. I’ve made a household with all of my best friends from school, and built us a mansion. It’s fun to live with them virtually and pretend we’re all still together- I often play it while facetiming them. It’s helping me emotionally get through this global pandemic we are living through, because COVID-19 does not exist in the sims world. However, Sims is easy to get carried away with, and I sometimes spend too much time creating sims or building a house, giving me a headache and stressing me out. It also makes my computer super hot, which can be concerning. But it does keep me entertained for hours on end.

1. Club Penguin
If a perfect online game exists, it’s Club Penguin. Club Penguin was my favorite game throughout childhood, and it continues to be today. You can make money easily in the game, and the minigames are addicting to play. I could spend hours playing the same one. I love dressing up my penguin and tricking out my igloo as well. It’s also fun to interact with the other penguins on the island, they often host igloo parties and it fulfills my need to socialize from the comfort of my own bed- although with random people under aliases such as “misspenguin2.” It is a fast server and always a party. I can’t say enough good things about Club Penguin. God bless its creators.
